Matt Tennis Endorses Jamie Johansson for Assembly
Chico, CA – Matt Tennis, a Butte County rice farmer, Chair of the Butte County Water Commission and former Chico Unified School District trustee, has announced his endorsement of Jamie Johansson for State Assembly, citing Johansson’s proven leadership in fighting for water rights, advocating for farmers, and shaping sustainable water policy.
“Jamie Johansson has been instrumental in protecting Butte County’s water resources and ensuring farmers have a seat at the table in critical water discussions for more than two decades,” said Tennis. “From his knowledge and work on the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) to his leadership in the formation of the Tuscan Water District, Jamie has fought tirelessly to preserve and protect our water rights and the future of agriculture throughout the state. He is by far the best and most qualified candidate to represent us in this race for Assembly District 3.”
Johansson, a farmer, small business owner, and former Oroville City Council member, has long been a champion for water rights across California. He has worked alongside farmers from the Klamath Basin to Imperial Valley advocating for policies that balance environmental needs with the economic realities. He helped organize a water rally at the state capitol successfully protesting the state water board’s pending action that would of decreased the North State’s available water, for both agriculture and urban use, by 2 million acre feet.
Johansson’s leadership has also extended to addressing key statewide water challenges, including advocating for water infrastructure investments, both in Congress and the state legislature. He has supported long-overdue funding for water storage projects, including Sites Reservoir and raising Shasta Dam, to secure long-term water reliability for farmers and residents.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of Matt Tennis,” said Johansson. “Water is the foundation of our agricultural economy and rural communities. I’ll be proud to represent Assembly District 3 in Sacramento and I’m not afraid to stand up against policies that threaten our water security and rights.”
Tennis’s endorsement adds to a growing coalition of agricultural leaders, business owners, and community advocates supporting Johansson’s campaign for Assembly.
